Helen has been involved with Community Radio since 2004. She first discovered it when in hospital surfing the stations and loved the homely feel. She then applied to become an announcer with Hobart FM where she hosted a popular show called Tassie Experiences for 17 years. Concentrating on Tasmanian Music, live performers and events. Helen then moved to Huon and Kingston FM. Living in Margate, Helen tends to concentrate on the Kingston side bringing balance to the station. Her love of gardens and floral art, along with singing and radio fills her life with joy and contentment which she likes to share.

The Huon Valley has its own blues club – The Lightwood Bottom Blues Club – which is currently based around the corner from Huon & Kingston FM’s radio station at the Geeveston Ex-Servicemen & Women’s Club. Skip is a patron and regular performer at the club which gets together on the last Friday of every month for their live music nights which usually feature up to 6 local acts as well as a jam session.
The Lightwood Bottom Blues companion is Skip’s contribution to community radio where he seeks to inform and entertain his audience every week with blues – both classic and contemporary as well as local.
Skip has been playing the blues ever since he formed his first group, Dogfood Inc. in Canberra in the early 1970’s. He lives in the Huon Valley with his partner Kate Meehan who has been his go to vocalist for over 20 years.
The Lightwood Bottom Blues Companion every Wednesday 8pm-10pm.
Rod’s involvement with the station goes back to its infancy at Geeveston District High School, known then as Radio Geeveston Youth (7RGY).
